My sick baby
I spent last night in the ER with my sick 14 month old. He had been throwing up all day and just could not keep any food or even fluids down. By evening time I knew it was time to go see a doctor. The entire thing was completely heart breaking. They had to stick him 4 times before the nurses could get an IV threaded into his little vanes. And in between 2 of the attempts we took a 45 minute break to calm him. They got the IV in finally but every time the fluids started to flow he would wake and scream in pain. So they turned the drip down to half which meant an extra hour on top of the next hour to be expected. This was fine with me as long as they could get the fluids in. His labs showed he was dehydrated but that was a given since he had not had a single wet diaper since the morning when he woke. I sat holding him most of the time but eventually I was able to slip him into his stroller laying down. We had a real rude old couple in the room next to us and every time my baby cried the woman would start squawking and he husband would run out demanding a new room. They told him they were full. Then 2 minutes later he would do the same thing. I was so ticked off I yelled “they must have never had any kids of their own!” How dare they! Sick babies is nothing to be messed with and I was trying my best to sooth my baby. We eventually got a private room though. I think the hardest part of the ordeal was restraining my baby and watching helplessly as they poked him with IV needles and he would scream and look into my eyes as if to say “please help me mommy”. I cried my eyes out while they done this to him. It is so hard to watch our own children hurt. It turned out he has a tummy virus. He is now on the road to recovery.
